Past Doing Good Days
September 28th – Doing Good Day at Gran’s Attic and the Samaritan Center
Samaritain Center, 402 Girod Street, Mandeville, LA
On September 28th, the Dunavant Wealth Strategies team got the opportunity to tour both Gran’s Attic and the Samaritan Center (run by the same non-profit) in old Mandeville, LA. It was interesting listening to Store Coordinator Lynne Adcox tell us about the items they receive for Gran’s Attic Thrift Shop and how those proceeds go to fund the food bank side of the operation. Not only do they receive donations from individuals in the community, but also from some favorite local boutiques like the Villa and Brenchley when items don’t sell in their stores. You can find some amazing deals on designer clothes and shoes! We did a wide range of things to help – from spreading gravel in the parking lot to sorting and bagging jewelry for Gran’s Attic’s 50¢ Jewelry Sale and moving books out of the book room to make room for a new shelf. Ms. Lynne even shared some touching stories about how they have been able to help people in the community over the years. We’d like to thank the Samaritan Center for allowing us to come out and volunteer! We all worked hard, but the kids did amazing!
August 31st, 2013 – Doing Good Day Bake Sale
Our kids had a great time preparing for and being in charge of our Doing Good Day Bake Sale for Kids Helping Kids! We had some great baked goods created by our families and by some of our amazingly talented client families as well. Thank you for all who contributed and participated, it was a great turnout with lots of delicious treats available for purchase. The kids were a little nervous, but after the first 15 minutes they were selling like professionals! A huge thank you to Walgreen’s for letting us use their sidewalk for our sale. The kids raised $227 for Mercy Project to help in the freeing of child slaves in Ghana. Thank you to all who donated, participated, baked and came out to show your support!
June 1st, 2013 – Doing Good Day at STARC Noah’s Arc
STARC, 1689 Viola Street, Mandeville, LA
On June 1st, the team at Dunavant Wealth Group, their clients, and their families headed to the STARC Noah’s ARC Children’s Development Center to help STARC with a project for their summer camp. The facility provides educational and developmental services to children from ages six weeks to five years, integrating children with disabilities with the other children. The big project was painting one side of an 80 foot fence all white so the children may add their own artwork over the summer. The group was able to finish painting the fence with 2 coats of paint in about an hour and a half. The kids were kept busy as well, spreading mulch and cleaning toys, tables and chairs inside.
Suzanne Bougeois, Director of Operations at STARC and Lorie Pentland, the Noah’s ARC Center Director spoke with the group about the children they work with and the programs they provide. It was inspiring to hear about their work with children who have developmental and mental disabilities, and how they progress and grow with STARC’s help. Overall, it was a very rewarding day for all involved and they are excited to see the finished product from the children at the end of the summer.
April 27th, 2013 – 1st Doing Good Day
New Heights Therapy Center, 16191 Hwy 40, Folsom, LA
The Dunavant Wealth Group team and their guests were welcomed at New Heights Therapy Center with a tour of the facility and were able to sit in on some of the sessions. After learning more about how the center works and the special needs of their clients, the group was able to work on projects for the center. Some painted the barrels and cones that are use in the therapy sessions while others freshened up the planting pots that add a pretty touch to the center grounds. Though they were not able to help directly with the horses and clients, the group had a great time hearing the stories of the clients and working together to benefit those in need.
